Power Play: Never underestimate the power of the eyebrow

21 December 2012 Rose Herceg

Facial expressions, especially those conveyed well, are pure gold.

The power of a raised eyebrow sits in a league of its own. Sometimes words are superfluous. A look or a stare or a set of downward cast eyes can do more in the way of power than any sentence can.

Get to know your most devastating looks. Know how your facial idiosyncrasies can determine the temperature and the mood in any room.

By the same measure know how your looks of approval can change the dynamic of any room. Power is rarely in the words: it’s in the mannerisms and in the body language.

My personal favourite is a blank stare: the ultimate poker face that confuses the audience and forces them to talk themselves into a black hole.

Give nothing away and see which way the wind blows.
