Power Play: Wisdom is knowing what to overlook

07 November 2012 Rose Herceg

We all know that wisdom is a big (and loaded) word. But the part that most of us don’t know is that wisdom knows what to overlook.

Not every event or problem needs to be analysed. Not every problem needs to be solved. Not every problem needs to be put under an X-ray screen and interrogated.

Stepping right over it is sometimes exactly what’s required. It’s like listening to somebody tell a really bad joke and jumping right over it when nobody laughs. Best to act like it never happened.

Most of us can’t let anything go: we need to chew it over until it’s been examined through every angle. Some things need to stay unobserved and buried deep in the ground. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Power Players know exactly what to overlook because they know what happens if they investigate something that needs to be left alone. Chaos. Get wise on what to overlook.
