The High Court today refused to hear mining magnate Gina Rinehart’s appeal to keep details of a family dispute secret.

The family is in conflict over a multibillion-dollar trust controlled by Rinehart, who is Australia’s richest person.

The High Court has ruled against continuing a suppression order, which had allowed details of the dispute to be kept private.

Rinehart’s youngest daughter, Ginia, who has sided with her mother in the case, issued a press release explaining how painful it was to have her family disagreement aired in the Supreme Court.

“My loving and hard-working mother has only ever wanted the best for her children. My siblings and I were blessed with an exceptionally fortunate upbringing,” she said.

“This case is motivated entirely by greed. I have no doubt that one day soon my brothers and sisters will regret putting money before family. Unfortunately, this realisation will come too late as the damage to our family and its good reputation will already have been done,” the statement says.

The case is to be heard by the NSW Supreme Court.

Yesterday Rinehart was listed by Forbes as the world’s 29th-richest person, and the richest woman in the Asia Pacific.
