Markets rise with jobs in the US: Afternoon market insights

The local share market rose today on the strength of good US jobs and housing construction data.

Solid gains overnight on Wall Street helped push the All Ordinaries up 0.7% to 4,385 and the S%P/ASX200 up by the same percentage to 4,362.

The Australian dollar held its value today, buying $1.048, while Treasury hosed down calls for intervention.
